This is a photo of some fresh sphagnum moss I collected earlier this week with Mikey, its from a spring fed source and is weed free and has amazing ‘healing’ powers when it comes to air layers and rooting yamadori. I collected over 100 Kilos, enough to keep me going for a week or two. I usually soak the moss in rooting solution used in hydroponic cultivation. Fresh sphagnum moss is far better than the dried stuff because it continues to grow and you can use it many times over
Hi Tony, just collected my first tree the other day and have a couple more hawthorns to collect this week. How is the moss used? Is it wrapped around the rootball after collection and when put in the container?
Hope you can help and thanks for the Youtube vids. Great stuff.

Hi Darren I use to keep the humidity around the base of the trunk, and for air layers
